How should I take this medicine?

You need to start taking the capsules 2 days before visiting a malaria area, whilst you are abroad, and for a further 4 weeks after you leave. It is important to take Doxycycline at the same time each day and with a large glass of water.

The typical side effects may include: anorexia, nausea, diarrhoea, thrush, sore tongue (glossitis), headaches, blurred vision or tinnitus.

Some patients experience enhanced sunburn due to increased photosensitivity. Sunscreens are important when taking anti-malarials; in the instance of severe sensitivity alternatives anti-malarials should be used.
